June 8, 2019 by

Root Canal

June 8, 2019 by

Root canals can be an intimidating process, but our dentists and team here at Gold Square Dental aim to make it as simple of a procedure as possible for all our clients.

A tooth can be divided into two main parts, the crown (or the visible portion of your tooth) and the root, which is protected by your gums and jaw bones. There are also three component layers that make up your tooth, the outside enamel, a middle layer called dentin and finally the innermost part of your tooth which is the pulp.

When the pulp of a tooth becomes infected, decayed or inflamed a root canal is necessary to treat the issues. It is important to take care of the pulp of a tooth because this is where the nerves, blood vessels and connective tissues of the tooth are protected by the tooth, and it is important to your oral health to keep them maintained.

If you are experiencing intense tooth pain, heat/cold sensitivity in a specific tooth, or have experienced trauma or a fracture of a tooth, you could potentially require a root canal. If you have any concerns, our dentists will be able to examine the tooth in question and consult if you may require the root canal procedure.

Questions about root canals? Contact the reception team at 306-522-3632 and one of our helpful, knowledgeable team will have the answer!

Fillings

June 8, 2019 by

Do you require a filling for one or more of your teeth? Our dentists here at Regina’s Gold Square Dental can help you get your teeth back into shape.

Fillings are used in cavity, broken tooth and tooth decay treatments. One of our dentists will remove the affected area of your tooth, leaving a gap that has to be filled in. They will then make sure that the area is properly prepared for your filling, which includes making sure all the decay has been removed and that the area is clean of any debris. The tooth will then be filled and once hardened, shaped and filed by our dentist.

There are a number of different materials that can be used in fillings, such as:

  • Gold
  • Porcelain
  • Silver amalgam
  • Composite resin (plastic and glass)Our dental experts will help consult with you to determine what type of material would be best for your filling.

After your filling is in place, it is important to take proper care of your new tooth filling. This includes regular brushing and flossing at least once a day, accompanied with regular cleanings and checkups. It is important to have a dentist regularly check on your filling, to make sure that no cracks have formed and that it is still properly in place.

Feel free to contact our office today if you have any questions about or require a filling.

Dental Crowns

June 8, 2019 by

Dental Crowns are needed for a variety of reasons, and our team of experts at Gold Square Dental are here to help! Some of the reasons crowns can be required are to cover a large filling, help repair a cracked tooth, or for cosmetic reasons.

Getting a dental crown may be an intimidating process, but our team will help make the service be as pain free and easy as possible. Local anesthesia is used to numb the area surrounding the tooth in question to help reduce the pain. In fact, you should only have very minimal soreness or sensitivity after the anesthesia has worn off! Plus our team has lots of experience to make it a smooth going process for you.

Initially a temporary crown will be put in place while your permanent crown is being made, and it will be replaced after a few weeks. Your permanent crown will be modeled on your own teeth, as well as colour matched, so that the fit will be natural once the process is complete.

Once your crown is in place it should last 10-20 years, with proper care. This includes regular hygiene and examination appointments, as well as taking extra care when brushing and flossing around the crown.

If you have any further questions, please call our office and we will be happy to help!

Teeth Cleaning & Dental Hygiene

June 8, 2019 by

It is important to get your teeth regularly cleaned and examined by a dentist. Plaque and tartar will build up over time, even with proper brushing and flossing, so it is important that you teeth are cleaned by a professional regularly.

Regular dental checkups can make sure that your teeth are in optimal condition. It is also extremely important for preventing things like tooth decay, gum disease and cavities. A healthy mouth, teeth and gums are an essential part to your overall health.

The next best thing for oral health other than preventative care is early detection. The longer a cavity or tooth decay is allowed to exist, the harder it can be to correct. However, our team of dentists and hygienists will be able to help you no matter what, so make sure to not delay and book your appointment today for teeth cleaning and an oral health check up.

Tips to keep your teeth in top shape:

  • Brush regularly (2-3 times per day and after meals)
  • Floss
  • See a Registered Dental Hygienist for regular 6 month hygiene appointments
  • Have a dentist examine your teeth and gums once a year
  • Limit acidic and sugary foods
